That’s a wrap…

by admin

In case you weren’t able to make it, Pride Run & Walk 2018, held yesterday on July 22nd was another major successful year.

Mother nature made up for last year’s rain with clear skies and hot temperatures as 348 proud runners and walkers hit the sea wall pavement brighter than ever.

An army of volunteers helped make the park and course look amazing with an endless sea of smiles and rainbows and with the only glitch of the day being a faulty start line arch which was quickly remediated thanks to the creative minds of Christopher and Stephen.

Awards and Prizes were handed out to the top 3 finishers in 3 gender categories for 2 events (5km and 10km), as well as 14 door prizes were gifted.

Team ‘Which way to Fountainhead’ cleaned up with prizes for being the top fundraising team with $5,130 and the crowd cheered for them to take home prizing for best dressed.

$9,750 were received in direct donations to our two beneficiaries, Out in Schools and LOUD Foundation. This total doesn’t include the profits made from the event, which we’ll know in the next few weeks as final bills/invoices are paid.

Race results are available at https://www.startlinetiming.com/en/races/2018/pride and photos will be posted as soon on Facebook as soon as they’re available.

The board of VFR would like to thank the organizing committee for their tireless efforts in executing a smooth and fun event. Those include:

  • Rohan Hare – Event
  • Kangsoon Park – Course
  • Mike Hsiao – Volunteer (on behalf of RaceForce)
  • Alan Jay – Water Station and Miscellaneous.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated this year, may it be as a participant, offering a helping hand, raising/donating money… all of it. Your continued support of Pride Run & Walk is immensely appreciated.

Vancouver Sun Run

by admin

Oh what a glorious day for a run! The Vancouver Frontrunners team joined over 41,000 others at the most beautiful Vancouver Sun Run in recent memory. We recorded multiple personal bests, a few first Sun Runs, and NO injuries. We also got to splash our logo on the back of this year’s fashionable green and grey technical tees, so people will be seeing us around town all summer. We’d like to offer our thanks to everyone who came out the night before, the brunch after, cheered us on throughout the course, took photos, and just gave it until it was gone. Special shout out to Rohan for being our team captain!

The night before the run a bunch of members and Sun Runners got together for pints and conversation at the Blarney Stone, and after, we had to stop in at Fountainhead for more of the same!

If you missed the Sun Run, but you want to gear up for the Pride Run and Walk, we are offering a FREE 10 week learn to run program starting May 12th. You can sign up here.

Vancouver Frontrunners in the Community

by admin

Two past presidents (Rohan and Jag) and our current president Christopher represented us at Out in Schools/Out on Screen’s annual Out for Breakfast fundraiser. We have supported Out in Schools through Pride Run and Walk and related fundraising for many years because of the great work they do to support youth, raise awareness, and build community in Vancouver and throughout BC. To donate or learn more about their mission, click here.

Pride Run Partner – Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Amazing to see Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Pride Sports Day and to have their support for #VanPrideRun. Two great prizes of Whitecaps Club Seats to a game for 4 people went to two lucky individuals.

And, remember, we have 40 tickets reserved for Whitecaps FC Pride Night: ‘Caps vs. Houston Dynamo. Would be great to see as many as possible sign up. This is a great social event.

Tickets can be found here: https://goo.gl/dpuec1

Pride Run Partners

Thank you to IONICA and VFR runner/IONICA owner Michela Toscano. Hosting and managed services by IONICA make web sites faster, more secure, and rock-solid reliable. And, we were lucky enough to have their support for #VanPrideRun to help send our first place fundraiser to Mexico!

With a philosophy of partnership, aligned interests, and corporate stewardship, IONICA works to align interests and goals so everyone wins, rather than simply striving for the best return to shareholders.

Thank you Dean Nelson and GayWhistler.com. Two very lucky runners will be going to Snowball 26 during Whistler Pride and Ski Festival from January 21 to 28, 2018. Your presence at Pride Run & Walk 2017 was so appreciated!

Cheers to BC Lions! Tickets to one of your games were a brilliant giveaway to our sports enthusiasts at the Vancouver Pride Run & Walk.

Thank you Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa for giving our second prize fundraiser a 2-night stay where they will get to take in breathtaking ocean and mountain views of the North Island, soak in the Pacific Mist Hydropath®, and enjoy the many other charms of this resort.

Vancouver Frontrunners and Pride Run and Walk are full of gratitude for India Bistro‘s contribution to finisher and door prizes. Always a keen supporter, we love enjoying Wednesday suppers at their venue. Three cheers for India Bistro!

Thank to our friends at Running Room – some of our fastest runners walked home with a giftcard to the store! Your presence at the run was special as always!

Thank you, White Spot Restaurant for your continued support in Vancouver Pride Run & Walk. Gift Certificates to your restaurants were well-received by our hungry runners!

Pride Run & Walk Chip Time Results

by admin

Chip time results for Pride Run & Walk can be found at:

https://www.startlinetiming.com/en/races/2017/pride

We’re a little embarrassed to admit that we acknowledge our very own ‘Steve Harvey’ moment. Our registration form for Vancouver Pride Run & Walk allowed for 4 gender categories. Male, Female, Gender Variant and Undisclosed. In recognising the top finishers in the Gender Variant categories, we instead announced the top finishers who registered as Undisclosed. Undisclosed is not a category we award in.

With that said, we make the following correction:

  • In the 10km race, coming in 1st place was Jennifer Ceren at 42m:23s. There was no runner up.
  • In the 5km race, coming in 1st place was Michela Toscano at 23m:20s and runner up is Sophia Stivanakis at 24m:49s.

We sincerely apologise for this mix-up and we will put measures in place to ensure it won’t happen again.

Pride Run & Walk Launch BBQ

by admin

Vancouver Frontrunners invite you to join them at the Junction Pub on June 25th from 3-7pm to help launch this year’s Pride Run & Walk.

Last year we raised over $13,200 which went directly back to the community, and this year we hope to out perform that number again.

Invite your friends, colleagues, team members, and show us your true colours as the theme is Pride and/or Disco! Bring out the rainbows, the short shorts, the 80’s hair and lets have some fun.

We’ve also teamed up with the Junction and are able to offer an incredibly cheap burger and beer combo ($10 in advanced, $15 at the door).

Purchase this delicious meal at https://priderunlaunchbbq2017.eventbrite.ca/
