Super Saint-Nick Saturday

Saturday, December 6 was Saint Nicholas Day, a perfect excuse for:

• A Reindeer Run. Running through the park with antlers on our head and bells on our toes!
• Christmas brunch. Food gloria food for 21 festive reindeer.
• AGM. A wee little annual general meeting. We didn't even notice it.
• Trash to treasure gift exchange. An opportunity to re-gift the crap we got at last year’s event!
• Carolling. We sounded pretty good to souped-up lyrics for "Favourite Things"! Who knew?
• Donations for the food bank. A worthy cause all year round.

No reindeer were harmed during this event.

Fall Classic
November 16, 2008

The Fall Classic takes place every year on the beautiful campus of the University of British Columbia. The route is relatively flat and the weather was ideal this year: cool and dry. The event raises money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Vancouver Front Runners had five participants in the half-marathon and 10-km distances. Three members had personal bests: congratulations to Trevor Fenton (half), Mark Rozenberg (half), and Stanley Ulmer (10 km). We were also happy to bump into some former members at the event.

James Cunningham Seawall Race
October 26, 2008

Vancouver Front Runners’ team placed second in the men’s category at the James Cunningham Seawall Race, finishing a mere 15 seconds off the winning team’s average gun time. Mike Ross won in his age category. Bern McNicholl won a door prize for performing the fastest 10 push ups, and John Pickering won a door prize for being the tallest person there! Congratulations all around and a big thank you to our team captain, Gar Fisher.

VFR 25th anniversary pool party
August 9, 2008

One of the founders of Vancouver Front Runners, Rick Woods, graciously offered up his beautiful pool in lovely south Surrey for a 25th anniversary pool party. The weather co-operated and lots of food and fun was had by all in attendance. Thanks Rick!

Pride Festival booth
August 3, 2008

Vancouver Front Runners and English Bay Triathlon Club set up a booth at Sunset Beach to welcome the Pride Festival revelers. The placard on the early years of the club was of particular interest to visitors.

A big thank you to Kevin Hanson for sorting out all the details for the booth this year.

Vancouver Front Runners Pride Run & Walk
August 2, 2008

Vancouver Front Runners is proud to announce Pride Run & Walk 2008 has generated net proceeds and donations totaling over $12,000. This includes a fundraising amount of $5,555 that was generously matched by TELUS in the amount of $5,000 via its Dollars for Fundraisers program.

BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon
May 4, 2008

The Vancouver Marathon is always a favourite event for VFR. With the addition of a relay team this year, we fielded about ten runners.

We started the weekend off with a pasta dinner at Wild Garlic restaurant on Saturday evening. Thanks to Sandy and her team for their hospitality. Thanks to John Andru for organizing.

The weather for the race on Sunday morning couldn't have been better, a cool, dry day.

Congratulations to Trevor Fenton for running a personal best for the full!

The relay team came in first in the community- male division. The flower power baton worked like a charm. Thanks to Bob Knall for sorting out the relay entry.

Vancouver Sun Run
April 20, 2008

The Sun Run is the biggest running event in Vancouver. This year almost 45,000 runners and walkers finished.

The International Front Runners team (21 members) placed second in their category behind VANOC and fifth overall.

Three of our runners placed in the top 10 of their age categories!

Thanks to Patrick Tham for organizing this year's team and to the Seattlites for joining us!

Vancouver Front Runners sign up drive
February 10, 2008

We had a successful signup party (in cooperation with the English Bay Triathlon Club) at Score on Davie Street. Ten people signed up, including two new members! Lots of people came for beer and camaraderie.
