Xtra-special Xmas Xtravaganza
December 19, 2009

The Xtra-special Xmas Xtravaganza started out with 14 runners who donned their reindeer antlers and serenaded Stanley Park with their bells a-ringing. Santa also appeared looking very fit and sporting a very nice bow.

Afterwards, Sandy and the crew at Wild Garlic presented 24 of us with a very tasty buffet brunch. Much merriment ensued and was only ever so briefly interrupted with the AGM. Board elections were also held. Spirits again became lively with a rousing rendition of Our Favourite Things.

Fall Classic
November 15, 2009

The Fall Classic takes place out at UBC. It's the last run of the season and the weather is always a factor. This year it rained lightly all morning and the ever present wind gusted from time to time. However, the events were all over long before the heavens opened later that day. We were actually very fortunate.

We were four participants, one in the half, one in the 10 km and two in the 5 km.

James Cunningham Seawall Race

The James Cunningham Seawall Race takes you once around the seawall at Stanley Park for a 9.5 km run.

Thanks to Gar Fisher for sorting out our entry.

Royal Victoria Marathon
October 11, 2009

The Royal Victoria Marathon offers a full, a half and an 8 km. The weather was very agreeable for running: cool and clear. The runners enjoyed stunning views of the Olympic Mountains and Mount Baker.

VFR had one runner in the 8 km, one in the half, and five(!) in the full.

Sunset Beach Festival
August 2, 2009

Vancouver Front Runners shared a booth at the festival with the English Bay Swim Club and the English Bay Triathlon Club. We had lots of opportunities to promote all three clubs to locals and visitors alike. And the booth made for great people watching. :-)

Copenhagen World Outgames
July 25 to August 2, 2009

Members of Vancouver Front Runners participated in running, track, and swimming at the World Outgames in Copenhagen. Other members were also there just to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The host city put on an imaginative and well-organized event. Many thanks Copenhagen!

Scotiabank Vancouver Half-marathon & 5K
June 28, 2009

Nine frontrunners completed the half and one ran the 5K. The majority of us ran personal bests. Special mention to the first-time half-marathoners.

Race conditions were ideal as we half-marathoners made our way from the University of British Columbia, along the waterfront, over the Burrard Street Bridge and to the finish line in Stanley Park.

BMO Vancouver Marathon
May 3, 2009

The Vancouver Marathon is one of the club's favourite events because so many other frontrunners from other cities come out for it.

This year we had seven visitors from Seattle and one from Regina.

Our special marathon weekend started off with a light run around Brockton Point on Saturday morning, followed by brunch with the rest of the Saturday morning runners.

On Saturday evening, we were 35 people for dinner at Wild Garlic on Denman Street. We had a choice of chicken, halibut, or lamb. Sandy and her crew did a wonderful job as usual.

Sunday morning was sunny and cool; excellent for a long race. (The sun did become a factor later on in the race.)

Vancouver Front Runners had two finishers in the marathon, two in the half, and three in the 8 km.

A big thank you to Trevor Fenton for sorting out the weekend for us this year!

Vancouver Sun Run
April 19, 2009

The Vancouver Sun Run was 25 years old this year. The route is 10 km and runs through downtown. The race is one of the largest running events anywhere. You can expect 50,000 of your closest friends to be out there running with you.

We billed our team as "International Front Runners" again this year. Thank you to the Seattle contingent for making it an international team.

We placed third in the "other" category, not too bad considering some team members came down with various ailments.

Our stalwart captain, Patrick Tham, pulled off an enjoyable weekend for us once again!
