After the usual reindeer run, the club met at Wild Garlic for its holiday brunch. The annual general meeting followed where the club morphed itself from an informal organization to the legal entity, the Vancouver Frontrunners Club.

ING New York City Marathon
November 7, 2010
"The New York City Marathon is an event that lives up to its hype." Our own Don Smith went down to check it out and that is his report.
Don joined the 50+ team from Front Runners New York and they placed fifth. It was a great experience.
Check out the photo where Don is proudly wearing his Vancouver shirt.

James Cunningham Seawall Race
October 31, 2010
The James Cunningham Seawall Race takes you along the Stanley Park seawall. The race has become a big Halloween tradition in the local running community. Many participants wear festive costumes. The route is 9.5 km long.
VFR entered a team of five and came in fourth out of four teams but Joh Pickering took second in his age group. Way to go, John!
The team had a pretty good brunch afterwards at the Sylvia Hotel. The food and view were awesome.
Thanks to Bob and Gary for letting us use their new townhouse as a staging point. And thanks to Gar Fisher for organizing the event for us.

Gay Games VIII, Cologne 2010
July 31 - August 7, 2010
The Gay Games is the biggest sports and cultural festival in the world. The games took place in Cologne from July 31 to August 7, 2010. Some 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries celebrated the principles of participation, inclusion and personal best.
Vancouver Front Runners sent two participants and they report that the games were well organized. Cologne has a sports university and many events were held in that facility. The games were opened by Germany's Vice Chancellor, Guido Westerwelle, who is openly gay and attended the games with his partner.

Vancouver Sun Run
May 9, 2010
The Vancouver Sun Run is one of the largest running events anywhere with 50,000 registrants. The 10 km route circumnavigates downtown Vancouver.
Patrick Tham put together an International Front Runners team for us. He and his partner Norm fed us all well the night before with a wonderful meal of pasta. Norm's spaghetti sauce is sooo good!
Our team of 14 placed third in our category. Jag Bilkhu got another PB, his second in a week! (See BMO Vancouver Marathon below.)
We got together afterwards at the Fountainhead pub to celebrate the day's achievements.

BMO Vancouver Marathon
May 2, 2010
The BMO Vancouver Marathon includes a full, a half, and an 8 km. The races take place in and around downtown.
We welcomed several visitors from Seattle Frontrunners with a fabulous meal at Wild Garlic Bistro the evening before the race. It was a good opportunity for the members of the two clubs to get to know each other.
Seattle Frontrunners extends an invitation for us to join them on one of their runs or monthly potlucks: www.seattlefrontrunners.org.
Even though it rained for the actual event, the runners did really well. In the Seattle group, two runners qualified for Boston, several completed their first full, half, or 8 km. Others recorded PBs. In the local group, Mark Rozenberg finished the marathon in 3:40, a personal best, and Jag Bilkhu finished the 8 km in just under 36 minutes, also a personal best.
We finished the weekend with a visit to the Pumpjack for for the Beer Bust.
Many thanks to Jag for organizing the weekend and a special thanks to all our Seattle visitors for joining us. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

Resolution Run
January 1, 2010
The 5 km Resolution Run started the year off on a good foot for five frontrunners this year. The route takes you from Denman and Georgia to Brockton Point and back. The rain and wind made for a bracing experience but we had great fun splashing through the puddles. Our fastest runner made it into the top ten! Woo hoo!
