Reindeer run/walk and AGM
December 3, 2011
We had a record 40 people out for our annual reindeer run/walk and AGM. Thanks again to Sandy and the staff at the Wild Garlic Bistro for reserving the entire restaurant for us and creating such a delicious brunch. Thanks also to all those who completed the membership survey, took part in our AGM and contributed to the Vancouver Food Bank.

James Cunningham Seawall Race
October 30, 2011
The Seawall Race is a particular VFR favourite. It's a smaller event, right in our own backyard, and those who are so inclined get dressed up in Halloween costumes. The route is once around the Stanley Park seawall, just under 10 km.
VFR came in fourth out of seven teams in the mixed category. Our combined time was 4:24:06. Congratulations to the team and captain Gar Fisher for an excellent run and making VFR proud!

VFR Running Clinic
October 1, 2011
Jay McDonald, our very own elite runner, put us through our paces again at another informal clinic at Brockton Oval.
We learned some dynamic stretching/strengthening exercises that are designed to increase range of motion and flexibility. Increasing strength and flexibility can improve running speed and efficiency as well as help to prevent injuries. Thanks Jay!

Vancouver Queer Film Festival
August 12 and 19, 2011
VFR sponsored two showings as a community partner at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. We sold tickets for the two evenings in exchange for ad space and a chance to address the audience at one showing.
The first evening was a presentation of shorts called Beautiful Rejects, and the second evening was the Canadian premier of Going Down in LA-LA Land.

Pride Week
July 27, 28, 30, 2011
In the lead-up to the Pride Run & Walk, VFR put on some extra events in light of all the frontrunners visiting from other cities for the Outgames.
We enjoyed hosting several more runners for our regular Wednesday evening run and invited them to join us for dinner afterwards at Takis' Taverna.

On Thursday we took some visitors on a half-marathon sight-seeing route from downtown, along the water, out towards UBC. That evening we hosted an International Frontrunners social at the Oasis Ultra Lounge.

"First Half" Half Marathon
February 13, 2011
The First Half is a very popular race for a few reasons. It is well organized and follows a good flat course that’s mostly along the seawall. It’s also a great time of year for a race. And besides, the food at the end is scrumptious.
Many thanks to Trevor Fenton for planning the weekend for us and letting us use his place as a muster point. All together we were seven either running or volunteering.
A special call out to John Pickering who ran a personal best of 1:42:30 and won his age category. Go John!
