Vancouver Front Runners president's report 2007

Thanks everyone for being a part of our four-event Christmas affair and thanks to Sandy for a wonderful brunch. Since Stanley has only allocated three minutes for the AGM, I’ll keep the president’s report short and sweet. And to accomplish that, I’ll cover off our year by describing our top 10 achievements and memorable moments. Please go to our website to see pictures of most of the events.

  1. We kicked off 2007 with a three-way at Sugar Daddy’s in February. At the Beach Day 3-way, we partied with the tri club and swim club and signed up 13 members!
  2. We ran and raised funds for cancer in 2007. In March, a small, wet but enthusiastic contingent participated in Harry’s Spring Run-Off 8K for prostate cancer research. Later in July, at least two front runners ran in their undies at the Underwear Affair for cancers below the waist.
  3. Vancouver Front Runners along with a Seattle contingent reclaimed the #1 spot in our category at the Vancouver Sun Run in April. I’m hoping this international team participation will become a tradition for us. As well, even though we were in a different category from our nemesis, the BC Optometrists, we were ahead of them overall! We also enjoyed a huge pasta/salad feast and a post-race dim sum.
  4. Over the Vancouver International Marathon weekend in May, we organized events for local and visiting front runners. It started on Saturday with a rhododendron run followed by our regular brunch and a pre-race dinner. On Sunday, we had some great runs including at least one personal best.
  5. At the Lees Tri Triathlon in May, VFR members volunteered, participated, and helped raise $2,500 for the Gay and Lesbian Educators of BC to counter homophobia in the school system.
  6. In June, there was a road trip to Tofino for the Edge to Edge Marathon. Our two relay teams placed third and seventh overall (with FLOWER power - see website) and had a great time camping, RV'ing and cabining.
  7. For Pride, we volunteered at Picnic in the Park in July. In August, we had a successful Pride-sanctioned run and booth. We raised over $1,600 for the Dr Peter Centre that will be used to support centre activities and outings.
  8. James Cunningham in October had a slightly new route because of seawall damage from last winter’s storms. We came in first in our category and second overall!
  9. Today’s Christmas Affair—thank you to organizers of all four components.
  10. First annual president award goes to Stanley for communications: Yahoo Groups, website, Gaily Forward newsletter, photography, club email, etc.

From Bob Knall, Treasurer: We have $2,270.44 in the Vancity account.  The main revenue last year was from membership fees; the main expenditures were the Pride Run and the Pride Booth.

From David Webb, Membership: We have 69 members!
